| As churches who have received abundant gifts and resources for mission and ministry from Jesus Christ we affirm our common commitment to accompany each other in faithful mission to the world God loves through the sharing of these gifts and resources. |

Prayer
Regular email communication between the Upstate NY Synod Twinning Team and the head office of the ELCZ allows us to share opportunities, such as newly ordained pastors or women's fellowship retreats, to lift in prayer.
Visitors
Regular visits in both directions have enriched our relationship as we encounter our brothers and sisters face to face, share meals and culture, sing and pray together. Fourteen members of the Upstate NY Synod traveled to Zimbabwe in 2010.
Communication
Technology has changed the way we communicate with our companion synods. Snail mail letters have given way to quicker facebook, email, and texting messages. Prayer concerns and celebrations can be sent and received in minutes.
Congregational support
Congregations are often hungry for mission opportunities but need help in getting started. We have developed a dedicated team of volunteers that will visit congregations to help them become part of the companion synod relationship.
Sharing the stories
Our synod highlights stories from companion synod travelers or from congregational relationships on our synod website.
Scholarships and care for AIDs orphans
Support for care of AIDs orphans in our companion synod has been an ongoing financial goal. As the children become older and enter school, there has also been a need and a focus on raising money for scholarships.
Keeping our companion synod in our midst
We encourage congregations to have something symbolic of their twinned congregation. When there is a photo opportunity during a congregational event, the symbol of the twinned congregation can be included.
Companion Synod Roadshow
Recent travelers to Zimbabwe and Zambia returned with pictures and gifts from these countries. We are in the process of compiling a trunk that will become a traveling road show for those congregations or organizations interested in learning more.
Getting the big picture
Creating an organizational chart for leadership and congregations for our companion synod, and providing them with one for us has enhanced our understanding of each other's organizational structure.
