Profile of the companion synod relationship - 9C South Carolina Synod / Colombia /
Our Role in Global Mission

This is truly an accompaniment relationship. IELCO is helping the SC Synod with cultural competency and support personnel to develop Spanish-language ministries in South Carolina.

Component(s) of our relationship

exchanges
SC has sent a missionary to teach English in church-sponsored schools and received a Pastor from Colombia to serve a Spanish-language mission in SC. Women representatives of IELCO participated with synod WELCA.

School of Theology
Pastor from Colombia studying for STM at LTSS. Professor from LTSS is offering a short intensive course at IELCO School of Theology in Bogota in Spanish.

advocacy
For 3 years representatives from SC Synod have participated in Ecumenical Advocacy Days along with representatives from Colombia, addressing US policy in Colombia. The whole Synod Assembly participated by writing prayers for displaced persons.

Bishops
Bishop Yoos of SC attended IELCO Assembly in 2010 and Bishop Martinez will attend the SC Synod Assembly in 2011.

delegations
Representatives from SC toured IELCO ministries and participated in international partners consultation in November 2010 and are planning another trip in October 2011.
