Profile of the companion synod relationship - 9E Florida-Bahamas Synod / Cuba /
Our Role in Global Mission

Modeling true accompaniment rather than fractured political realities, the ELCA & ECLCIC live out a redeemed relationship, learning from each other as we walk side be side in respectful and sustainable friendship. It is reconciliation-being-realized.

Component(s) of our relationship

Annual mission trips
At ECLCIC's invitation, we bring an annual trip to help experience and interpret the churches to one another

Sustainable agriculture
The ECLCIC is reclaiming a large parcel of land and developing a farm that practices sustainable to teach community and self-sufficiency to urban people.

Historical interpretation
US/Cuba relations have a long and complicated history. We're engaged in a long term relationship to discover a common understanding of that history.

Advocacy for policy changes
Our Cuba connection has made us advocates of changing policies. Travel restrictions and the embargo have hurt the people greatly, while maintaining polarization. When restrictions are lessen, liberties increase.
