Profile of the companion synod relationship - ELCIC Manitoba / Northwestern Ontario Synod / Cameroon /
Our Role in Global Mission

To facilitate relationship building between people and congregations of our two churches through prayer, visits, and the sharing of resources, in order to strengthen each other for life and mission in our contexts.

Component(s) of our relationship

Relationship
Our two churches have agreed to partner in three main areas of ministry, an orphan program, women in leadership, and evangelism. Ten people from our Synod spent three weeks in Cameroon in February-March 2010 in these three areas of partnership.

Orphan Program
Orphan Program - through a Sunday School Mission Project called “Kids Helping Kids”, the Synod provides financial resources for food assistance and educational fees for approximately 65 children that are part of an Orphan Program in the EELC.

Women in Leadership
Women in Leadership - encouragement of the first women candidates in the EELC preparing for ordination, building relationships between women’s groups in our two churches, and working on women’s empowerment issues in our two churches.

Evangelism
Evangelism - since this is a passion of the EELC, the MNO Synod has had four people attend the evangelism training seminars in Cameroon, and have now been working at offering some of their learnings in congregations in our MNO Synod.

Upcoming Visits
In the fall of 2011, a two month visit will continue the work in Evangelism and the Orphan Program. In the spring of 2012, a four month visit will continue the work with Women in Leadership. In 2013, an EELC return visit is in the plans.
