Profile of the companion synod relationship - 3E Northeastern Minnesota Synod / Honduras / Christian Lutheran Church of Honduras
Our Role in Global Mission

For the last 4 years we have deepened our relationship with the ICLH cooperatively planning 8 Workshops on various themes from Confirmation to the Sacraments and last Fall "Romans and Relationships." We have also visited most of the churches.

Component(s) of our relationship

Workshops
We plan together 1 or 2 workshops each year on a theme chosen by the ICLH. A scriptural foundation is followed by blended small groups with up to 50 participant. Themes have included confirmation, the Sacraments and Romans and Relationships.

Prayer Partnerships
Regularly we seek prayers on behalf of our Honduran friends, specific needs especially after Hurricane Mitch and also after the recent coup. We also pray re: Human Rights and in July prayed at the ordination of the first women Pastor, Berta Ramirez.

Teaching Ministry
A retired Pastor has taught in the Diplomada this last February as well as visiting and preaching in several churches. There are plans to expand this ministry.

ICLH Visitors
We hosted the Pastor/President Martin Giron, Josefina Santos Dir. of Health Ministries and Ruby Flores, Dir of Education at our Synod Assembly in April of 2011. There were part of our 'Summit' with two other Companion Synods.

Representation at Ordination
On July 3rd of 2011 we sent our Synod Vice-President and her Lay Pastor husband to the Ordination of the first women Pastor in Honduras, Pastora Berta Ramirez. OUr Best wishes and prayers accompanied them.

Coming Delegation
In October of 2011 we will again provide leadership in a Workshop on Christology. This 5 member team will be our 9th in this series. We also preach, lead Bible Studies and visit several Churches.

HIV/Aids Ministry
A Pastora has invited us into Casa Renacer and the HIV/Aids ministry to include our Bishop and members of three teams, hearing their stories and conducting Bible Studies.

Human Rights
A representative of our Synod attended Ecumenical Advocacy Days in D.C and is strategizing with Honduran Pastors on how to address Human Rights issues in Honduras

Visitors to our Synod
The recent delegation of ICLH officials visited and preached in 10 congregations in the days following our Synod Assembly. They also visited Luther Seminary discussing further education opportunities.

Scholarship
One of our translators is now attending College in the US and receives unofficial assistance from a number of friends that have worked with him over the years.

Health Ministry
One of our Medical Doctors has visited in HOnduras and is working with the ICLH's Health Ministries planning Health Education visits to the several churches in the ICLH.

Companion Synod Signing
In October of 2010 our Agreement was signed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras by President Giron and Bishop Aitken. This was also before the entire Synod Assembly of NEM Synod in April 2011 by the same two officials.
