Profile of the companion synod relationship - 4F Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod / Peru /
| Our Role in Global Mission |
| Our 10+ year relationship with ILEP began with companion church relationships. Today we are strengthening our relationship with the synod, building an equitable relationship with all the Lutheran Churches in Peru. We use Principles of Accompaniment. |
| Component(s) of our relationship |
Prayer Partnerships: Includes congregations praying weekly during worship, the “Family y Familia” Program, and joint weekly prayer services between companion churches.
Visitors to or from our Synod: Our visits are designed so that we can accompany each other in faith and life. Time is spent hearing stories, visiting in communities, learning about congregational ministries and sharing projects. The emphasis is on relationships.
Supporting Pastoral Salaries, Partnering with ELCA ILEP is in the process of making structural changes in order to continue to do ministry. During this transition, the TLGC has partnered with ELCA in supporting pastoral salaries. TLGC’s commitment: 2009-$16,000, 2010-$10,000, 2011-$5000.
“Sembrando” - Sowing Seeds Program ILEP churches provide meals, social development, cultural/sports activities and homework help, designed to build assets in children who live in poverty. Families are supported at a congregational level to insure that it is a grass-roots initiative.
Projects: Projects with mutual agreement between companions and within the guidelines of the Companion Synod relationships, are done in partnership with ILEP and TLGC.
