Profile of the companion synod relationship - 5B Northern Illinois Synod / India /
|
| Our Role in Global Mission |
|
| We provide face to face contacts with ALC leaders and members. These contacts open doors for mutual ministry projects, understanding, sharing ideas, dialogue and faith building. Developing parish to parish relationships is a priority. |

| Component(s) of our relationship |
|
Mutual Ministry Projects Companion parishes are encouraged to share their ministries with one another. As relationships deepen opportunities to care for one another at all levels of the parish emerge. NIS congregations can offer assistance for mutually valued projects.
Understanding The NIS goal is to have a delegation present in India at least once every four years. This presence builds friendships and bridges of trust and hope.
Sharing Ideas Cultural differences generate opportunities for idea sharing. For example: ALC parishes often operate schools - how can our Sunday School interact with the parish school? Women's and Men's fellowships can share materials and program ideas.
Dialogue Christianity is a minority faith in India. Dialogue with our Indian companions strengthens our own ability to witness to our faith in our increasingly multicultural society.
Faith Building Often heard by delegations to India are comments of thanksgiving and wonder for friends who travel so far to pray, sing, and visit with parishes. Sharing our common Lutheran heritage, our baptismal roots, and our love of God's Word builds faith.
Parish to Parish Relationships Establishing mutual contact between NIS and ALC parishes give congregations on both sides of the companionship the joy of knowing they have prayer and ministry partner's half a world away. We minister in our places on one another's behalf.
