Immersion Experience in Mexico
The ELCA program at the Lutheran Center in Mexico City is designed as an encounter with the crucified and risen Christ, who is present among those condemned to death by these economic and political powers and yet who have risen to new life through their capacity to organize themselves drawing upon the wealth of their spirituality and history of resistance. Using tools from social sciences in conjunction with theological reflection participants will begin to analyze the reality and the root causes of injustice. Finally, the entire immersion experience will be integrated so that participants are challenged and empowered to become agents of transformation promoting God''s reign as global servant leaders in solidarity with the poor.

Labors of Love:
Maintenance and Landscaping
Labors of Love, a program directed by Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands, provides opportunities for individuals to assist in several special needs populations: abused and neglected children, children with severe disabilities and low-income senior citizens. Participants do basic repair and maintenance work (e.g. painting and landscaping) at a foster care facility of children; at group home for individuals with disabilities and at various housing developments for seniors and adults with disabilities. In both programs, participants interact daily and directly with the beneficiaries of the project. There are excellent opportunities for recreational activities and for spiritual enrichment made possible through local churches and church leaders.

Appetite for Justice, Mexico Style
(T.W.O)
T.W.O invites you to cross borders - international ones and personal ones. Come immerse yourself in the life and culture of Mexico. T.W.O arranges three-six day "Transformative Education" trips which begin in San Diego, California, and cross the border into Tijuana and Tecate, Mexico. There we visit persons, places, and projects to put a face on global issues such as hunger, poverty, trade and immigration. Work and service projects like house construction or helping out an orphanage are often part of the experience. Trips, however, will be custom designed to fit the interest and needs of those visiting. Bible studies will guide us as we explore solutions to these complicated current issues and discover partnerships that might make them happen. At the same time, we will get to enjoy the beauty and traditions of Mexico. Expect to go home with homework that can last the rest of your life.
Additional trips can be aranged crossing the border in Texas as well as to Guatemala. For those not having passports, we can now also offer similiar service/learning opportunities on the U.S. side of the border as well.
Come Learn! come serve! come make a difference in your life and the life of your neighbors.
