Prepare to Serve - High Adventure Style

Spend some time in the beautiful Badlands of North Dakota getting your group truly ready to serve. Our high adventure high ropes course "Leap of Faith" was built to mold and shape you and your adult leaders for Christian service from the inside-out, through: 1.) experience, 2.) learning, 3.) application. Leap of Faith is a training field for groups prior to a servant project. A "leap of faith" implies a move from the comfort zone or status quo into a place that may be scary, unknown, or risky. Service in God''s name is at times all of these things. Without Christian service, youth and young adults will miss out on a rich, exciting, living faith life. Participants overcome obstacles on a high adventure course. Instructors relate the adventure learning to Christian life/faith. Participating groups take the LOF experience and implement it into a servant project of their own choosing and organizing.

Fall and Spring Retreats

Be Still and Know that I am God! Psalm 46:10 speaks plainly during the changing seasons at Wilderness Canoe Base. The fall offers the subtle joys of a cooling landscape: morning paddles through the mists, cool air and a warm sun, swimming in a lake still holding the summer''s heat, hiking through the changing colors, campfires and their stories, watching and listening to the birds preparing for their journeys, taking a refreshing sauna and many more. The spring offers the excitement of budding plants and animals returning to their warm-weather routines. The fishing is excellent, the only crowds around are the returning birds, the sauna is hot, the campfire is burning, and the welcome is always warm. Daily devotions take the form of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "First and Last Word," book-ending the adventures of the day in the Word of God. Feel free to relax and observe God''s creation, go out to hike or fish the clear waters of Seagull Lake, or even ask the staff if there are any chores that you can help with! The retreat season is completely customizable and includes an ever-changing menu of first rate, home-cooked meals, made slowly with Love! Retreats are responsible for their own programming other than "First and Last Word."

Season runs September-November and May-June

Winter Retreats and Winter Camping

A relatively new development at Wilderness Canoe Base is the presence of a thorough and exciting winter retreat and camping program. Whether you desire to ski or snowshoe the frozen lakes of the Boundary Waters or to listen to the absolute stillness of the winter ringing in your ears, the winter season at Wilderness Canoe Base can offer it. Day trips to memorable vistas, crackling fires in the lake are only some of the options for our winter retreats. For the more adventurous, we have a new option of winter camping on Seagull Lake in canvas wall tents with portable wood stoves. Whether you want more time out in the wilderness or solitude to the max, our cold-weather trained guides will take you to a pre-determined camp for an overnight in the comfort of a heated tent. It is a true rustic experience accentuated by great food and even better conversation. Learn the tricks of winter camping or expand on your current experience in an an amazing setting. Daily devotions take the form of Dietrich Bonhoeffer''s "First and Last Word," book-ending the adventure of the day in the word of God. The retreat season is completely customizable and includes an ever changing menu of first rate, home cooked meals, made slowly with love! Retreats are responsible for their own programming other than "First and Last World." Call for details on camping options.
