This program is arranged for individual youth groups who want to experience life together, outside their congregation, in a whole new way. Mission:Milwaukee

Mission: Milwaukee is Crossway's new urban immersion experience your group just can't pass up! Crossway's will send your group down to Grace Place (our new site in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Milwaukee) for a week of service and learning in "Ole Mil Town." Your group could find yourselves working in an urban gardening project, serving food at a local shelter, being the willing hands for aging gardeners whose hands don't work as well as they used to, or doing a multitude of other things! Throughout the week you'll also get to take in some sites of the city through visiting a local beach on beautiful Lake Michigan, or event catching a Brewers game at historic Miller Park. Crossway's will provide your group with housing, meals, staff, and of course, a service learning experience that will change the lives of many.

Ox Lake International Villages

In a beautiful, rustic outdoor setting, our International Village campers are welcomed to a Christ-centered, multicultural learning experience in God's family without leaving the United States. Without watches, we'll go by God's clock; without wheels, we'll enjoy the beauty of nature as we hike the wooded trails; without electricity, we'll discover other sources of power; without fast food, we'll enjoy meals and international food prepared over wood-burning stoves. We'll learn from each other, experience interdependence, learn about culture and how our actions affect our world, and grow in faith.

Journey of the Heart

This week is designed to help us understand the role of compassion and service in our lives of faith. We also seek to recognize Christ in each person, whether they are homeless, hungry, or wealthy, we can learn and grow with them. We accomplish this through a week of service-learning. We first participate in a low/high ropes challenge course to prepare our hearts and our group for a challenging week. We then participate in an experiential-learning program lead by educators that have been or who are currently homeless. We then learn and serve with multiple service organizations in the twin city area.

Great Lakes Mission Trip

This mission trip is based out of Luther Park Camping and Retreat Center in Danbury, Wisconsin with destinations to the Duluth/Superior area and Burnett Co., Wisconsin. Take part in a Duluth experience to help groups experience the world of poverty and those living on the margins. This is not a typical trip and more than merely a retreat. Your group will be engaged by being lead through and experience living in poverty. Along with the immersion, groups will be working with Habitat for Humanity, the Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers, numerous food shelves or other service opportunities in Duluth and working in the local area of Danbury and Burnett County, which statistically is the poorest county in the state of Wisconsin. Some of these projects could include our local habitat chapter, local food shelf in Webster and projects around our neighborhood.

Chicago Immersion

The Chicago Immersion is designed for youth that come from a primarily rural or small town background. Participants will gain a firsthand awareness and understanding of the urban environment and its racial, ethnic, cultural and religious diversity. The experience will include service opportunities and also a look at Chicago''s multicultural Lutheran ministries.

On Chicago Immersion, we will gain a larger perspective of life in an urban setting, including the lives of those who struggle first-hand homelessness and hunger. Through service we will learn how food is organized and distributed to those in need. Daily Bible studies will examine how God''s Word is relevant to different cultures and for all levels of socioeconomic status. We will take time to discuss and reflect on each day''s experiences. We will connect with you and with other volunteers serving on the front lines of the struggle against poverty to share our stories, challenge our stereotypes and develop a better understanding of Christin ministry in the inner city. A powerful, eye-opening and transformative experience for both junior high youth groups.

Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network

Gleaning is the Biblical practice of hand gathering crops left after harvest. The Gleaning Network coordinates volunteer gleaners, growers, and distribution agencies to provide fresh produce for America''s hungry people. Growers offer their fields and orchards for hand gleaning by volunteers from church, schools, civic and other groups. The salvaged produce is donated to local food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and other agencies for free distribution to hungry children and adults. Tens of thousands of volunteers each year hand pick more than 15 million pounds of food to help relieve hunger in their own communities. The Gleaning Network operates in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and in selected areas of 20 states. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office for information about gleaning in their area.

Harvest of Hope Mission Work Camps

Harvest of Hope provides gleaning and study mission work camps that educate youth and adults about the realities of hunger, its causes and effects. Harvest of Hope combines gleaning (salvaging fresh vegetables and fruits from fields to provide food to hungry people,) activities that help explore hunger issues and worship to build a Christian community of service to help meet the needs of those in our world who live with hunger and poverty. Harvest of Hope provides participants with a basis for an ongoing commitment to responsible living in a hungry world. Designed for youth, young adults and intergenerational groups, weekend and weeklong mission work camps are conducted in the summer and fall at various locations. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office early in the year to register for Harvest of Hope.
